HMSHost International received two awards at this year’s annual Business Awards, presented by Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to business partners: the Innovation Award for its digital strategy, and the Airside Growth Award for achieving the highest revenue increase for Food & Beverage locations beyond passport control.
HMSHost International received the Innovation Award 2017 for its digital strategy. Part of this strategy is to enrich the ‘Customer Journey’, i.e. to offer travellers at Schiphol digital services at any time of day.
For Schiphol Airport, it is important that innovation meets the digital needs of travellers. A professional jury consisting of among others businesswoman of the year Vivienne van Eijkelenborg, selected HMSHost International as the winner thanks to its various digital initiatives to make the experience of guests as efficient and enjoyable as possible.
The interactive screens at the entrance of Asian brasserie Kebaya attract guests. Once inside, they are provided with tablets that serve as both a menu and a way to order food.
The FLIO app is an innovative application that gives travellers a full overview of all Food & Beverage options at the airport. It offers promotional campaigns at all F&B locations at Schiphol. Together with iCoupon, HMSHost International launched a service that allows travellers who are delayed to use digital F&B vouchers.
Marlijn van Straaten, Marketing & Communications Director at HMSHost International: “For many travellers, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is an attractive start to or stopover on their journey. The airport forms an efficient work and meeting spot for business travellers and provides a relaxed beginning to a holiday. With our brands and associates, we add an extra dimension to the process of travelling. We create Places to Be, places where our guests are the centre of attention. Innovative technologies contribute to that. Digitisation is not an end in and of itself; it helps us to reach all our guests in a busy environment like an airport, and it makes the process of travelling easier and more efficient. This award is an incredible reward for all our teams. It shows recognition for the way in which they meet the needs of travellers, as well as for how we continue to build on our digital strategy within our organisation. Teamwork makes the dream work!”
HMSHost International won the Airside Growth Award 2017 for scoring highest in overall sales growth achieved at F&B locations beyond customs. Everyone worked extremely hard on the implementation of new innovative F&B concepts. These new brands clearly resulted in the outstanding sales growth observed.
Ad Willemsen, General Manager at Schiphol, HMSHost International: "We are extremely proud of winning the Airside Growth Award. This award shows our skill at anticipating the growth of passengers and that we continuously work hard to exceed the expectations of our guests. By managing our core values on a daily basis, we create Places to Be for both our guests and our associates. This award also shows us that success is only possible with great teamwork, i.e. with the passionate support of our colleagues at the Business Development, IT, Marketing, HR and F&B departments. Thanks to these wonderful co-operative efforts, it was possible to utilise all opportunities and achieve the full growth potential of our stores. This gives us an incredible feeling of pride!”
